No - that's not conflagration. It's a burning "chump of corruption" which was symbolically burned today in about 5000 people's action "Oligarch's Funeral". Several creative and popular celebrities organized this kind of protest against 3 most influential Latvia's polit-businessmans which are blamed by many in Latvia's damaged level of development (especially in comparison to Estonia, which get rid of oligarchs more than 10 years ago and now really is head and shoulders above Latvia). Will we remain "failed state"? Or will we be strong enough to get rid of these leftovers of "wild capitalism" and finally will progress forward? Noone knows the answer yet.

Popular Latvian rapper Gustavo was also one of event's supporters:
Main organizer Viesturs Dūle:

What future are we building?

Kris says:
Some great images here. Looks like a great day out. It's interesting to hear about the differences with Estonia.
I agree that you need to kick the oligarchs out!
