Jaunais Rigas teatris starts a partial "strike" by protesting against delay of it's home building reconstruction

The New Riga Theater (JRT) will not stage new shows, protesting against the delays in the completion of the construction of the theater building on Lāčplēša Street, Riga, according to JRT's artistic director Alvis Hermanis on the social media "Facebook". 

He emphasizes that the repair of the theater building has been going on for five years and is "stuck" again - the deadline for the completion of the work is unknown and there is currently talk of breaking the contract between VAS "Valsts nekustamie espasumi" (VNĪ) and the builders - general partnership "SBSC". 

According to Hermanis, this means that the end of the repair is postponed for another two or three years. "The builders are not asking for additional funding this time, but only an advance, which the bureaucrats are not allowed to pay due to their own invented rules. If the builders were to get the requested amount now, then they would guarantee the completion of the work by September," explains the artistic director of JRT, adding that the situation can only be resolved by the project's customers .
