9th May - Europe Day | 9. maijs - Eiropas diena

Today European Union celebrates the Europe Day. Latvia joined EU 9 years ago but there are still divided arguments about it. One the one hand, we have recieved large financial support from EU to boost our development, on the other hand - there is unrighteous competition regards to direct payment to farmers, Latvia recieves the lowest direct payments in EU and it causes or agriculture industry to lag behind. Also Cohesion fund money should be given more to the poorest EU countries, if the idea about "Europe's equalization policy" is still alive... Of course, Latvia has lost huge part of it's sovereignity by becoming part of EU, because many normative acts are coming from EU now - but that's not a bad thing, most of them are really good laws, directed to the interests of people.
