On New Years Day, 1st January, when public transport in Riga was free for everyone, we took a ride across almost whole city (~23 km) from Purvciems to Daugavgrīva district. It is a small Soviet-time neighbourhood in Northern Riga which main advantage is location next to sea (Riga Sea Gulf). Many people had similar idea - to visit this seashore which looks especially magic because of industrial ships at sea horizone which waits permission to ship into Riga industrial port. This evening there were 9 of them, which you can see in the photos.

Madge @ The View From Right Here says:
Interesting that they must wait for permission to enter the port... almost like jets in a holding pattern around an airport...
Ivars Kubliņš says:
small port, so needs to wait! :)
One ship seems to be burning! :D
