Great Ķemeri bog | Lielais Ķemeru tīrelis

The Great Ķemeri bog is one of most unusual nature attractions in Latvia, and as it is rather close to Riga (just some 50 km from city centre), it's very popular too - in any season. Landscape is made of small bog trees (pines and birches), sfagns, water ponds between here and there. In a winter day with crystal frost it looks even more unusual. There is two trails for tourists - the longer one (3 km) and the shorter one (1,5 km). It's worth to take a walk on the longer path, as there are also a observation tower which offers nice views from above. Ķemeri bog is an internationally important wetland. Many species of plants thrive in the bog, especially mosses and orchids.
